According to Cambodian media reports, Prime Minister Hun Manet was scheduled to chair a plenary Cabinet meeting on March 13 to consider a draft anti-scam law. Led by the Justice Ministry and developed through interministerial technical consultations, the bill aimed to provide a clearer and more effective framework to prevent, curb and combat online scams, a government priority. Its contents drew on the UN Convention against Cybercrime, which Cambodia had signed, to support comprehensive and legally effective enforcement.
The meeting was also expected to assess progress in anti-scam work and set directions for the next stage of inspections. The report said passage of the bill would mark an important step towards a law-based response to online scams and demonstrate the government’s determination to eliminate cybercrime and protect the public interest.
