Construction has begun on the Damrei Phong concrete bridge. The report said it would connect three communes in Tuek Chhou district, Kampot province, involving 2,880 households. Describing it as a government achievement, it said the bridge would make travel and transport of farm produce to markets easier once completed.
Kampot Governor Mao Thonin and Rural Development Ministry Secretary of State Nuon Danil presided over the groundbreaking on the morning of March 12, 2026. The bridge is on the boundary between Stung Keo and Thmei communes in Tuek Chhou district, Kampot.
Mao Thonin said the government led by Prime Minister Hun Manet consistently considered residents’ welfare and needs, especially rural and remote infrastructure to ease travel and product transport. He said the project responded to the difficulties people faced crossing Damrei Phong bridge to reach markets, demonstrating the government leader’s attention to them.
Nuon Danil said the bridge, presented as a gift from the prime minister, would be 60 metres long and eight metres wide. Concrete approaches on both ends would total 200 metres in length, seven metres in width and 0.2 metres in thickness.
He said the Army Engineering Command would undertake construction, with completion planned within four months.
He added that the finished project would provide the multiple benefits residents had awaited for years. Writer: Pai Sokhim.
