Summary

Information Minister Neth Pheaktra launched the project on March 12, with Cambodia, China, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar participating.

Phnom Penh: After reporting success in its domestic campaign against fake news, Cambodia expanded cooperation to the regional level by launching Phase 2 of the campaign to eliminate fake news.

Information Minister Neth Pheaktra launched the project on March 12, 2026. Its one-year implementation period runs from January to December 2026, with participation from the Mekong-region countries of Cambodia, China, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar.

The second phase follows the ministry’s nationwide “Say No to Fake News” campaign, described as a year-long initiative beginning in April 2025 that had achieved notable success.

The minister said more than nine million people had viewed campaign content on social media during the first phase, while direct participation exceeded 60,000 across Phnom Penh and the provinces, covering the country’s 25 capital-and-province-level jurisdictions.

The report also said the campaign helped protect young Cambodians from fake news circulating on social media, describing young people as approximately 66 percent of the population.

Neth Pheaktra said first-phase experience would provide an important foundation for stronger cooperation with Mekong-region members against false, distorted and misleading information, especially AI-generated fake news spreading on social platforms. By: KPS99TV.
