Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Telegram on the evening of March 19 that he had asked Labour and Vocational Training Minister Heng Sour to meet employer and worker-union representatives as soon as possible to examine ways of easing commuting expenses during the transition caused by rising global fuel prices.
He expressed confidence that employers and unions could find a reasonable balance between relief for workers’ travel costs and maintaining industrial competitiveness.
The report separately attributes rising prices to the Middle East war, saying Israeli and US large-scale attacks on Iran on February 28 disrupted global aviation and oil shipments from the region, with the war in its third week at the time of reporting.
