Preah Sihanouk Governor Mang Sineth expressed hope that UN-Habitat would continue supporting provincial development, building on earlier cooperation. His requests focused on climate-change adaptation, stormwater drainage, climate-resilient housing for poor residents and improved management of solid waste and rubbish.
The governor raised these requests during a working meeting with Kazuko Ishigaki, UN-Habitat’s Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, at the Preah Sihanouk provincial hall on April 27, 2026.
Ishigaki said she would explore opportunities to work with provincial leaders to support further development. She referred to a new UN-Habitat strategic plan in 2026 with a focus on housing construction, among other priorities.
She described Cambodia as vulnerable to climate change and said further study was needed, particularly on adaptation. Housing needed to be resilient as well as affordable, she said, and UN-Habitat’s Cambodia team would continue sustainable development cooperation with the provincial administration.
Mang Sineth said the administration was ready to cooperate with UN-Habitat’s Cambodia team on further provincial development for the benefit of residents. He thanked the regional director and the agency for earlier support addressing local needs.
The governor said earlier support included mangrove protection and conservation, climate-adaptation activities, stormwater drainage and resilient housing for poor residents in Prey Nob district. He also cited solid-waste and rubbish management, smart-city planning and preparation of a smart-city concept document for Sihanoukville.
Ishigaki expressed pleasure at the achievements described by the governor and thanked him and provincial leaders for their support for UN-Habitat’s projects.
