Water in streams in Samlaut district has continued to rise sharply in recent days as rain keeps falling. Water has begun overflowing the stream banks and crossing roads, flooding some riverside homes and damaging crops.
In a notice, district authorities called on residents to prepare and exercise great caution as stream levels continued to rise without easing, especially people living along the banks. Persistent rain over the past few days has caused streams to overflow, from ស្ទឹងបរឡាង to ស្ទឹងក្រញូង, including ស្ទឹងចម្លងគួយ.
By the morning of July 13, 2026, floodwater had spread across fields into ឃុំកំពង់ល្ពៅ, flooding crops and homes in ភូមិតាសាញត្បូង, ឃុំតាសាញ. Water had also reached ឃុំអូរសំរិល and submerged the recently repaired ស្ពានអូរថ្ម bridge in ឃុំតាតោក. It continued into ឃុំសំឡូត and reached the railings of ស្ពានអូរកំបោរ bridge in ភូមិដូនត្រឹក, ឃុំតាសាញ.
With water levels continuing to rise, district authorities and personnel from all three security institutions deployed teams on duty day and night, ready to intervene and rescue residents travelling through flood-affected areas.
Meanwhile, by the morning of July 13, water at the កង្ហត dam in Banan district had risen to the top of the banks. As large volumes of water flowed forcefully from upstream, specialist officials decided to open the gates gradually to discharge water down the Sangkae River.
Battambang provincial authorities also urged people living along the Sangkae River in Banan, Sangkae and Ek Phnom districts and Battambang city to be particularly vigilant, as the increased flow could reach these areas soon.
