The Sangkae River reached 13.10 metres after 10 a.m. on July 15, 2026. Officials said it could rise to 13.50 metres, 20 cm below the 13.70-metre alarm threshold, and urged riverside residents, especially downstream, to take care during releases from dams.

Battambang: The Sangkae River continued rising rapidly, reaching 13.10 metres after 10 a.m. on July 15, 2026, compared with just over 12 metres the previous day.

According to information from the Battambang provincial administration and the head of the provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, the water could continue rising to 13.50 metres, leaving only 20 cm below the 13.70-metre alarm level.

Specialist officials said the rise followed the opening of water gates at the សេកសក multipurpose dam, the កង្ហត barrage and the សាលាតាអន barrage to release backed-up river water towards Tonle Sap Lake. These releases caused a sharp rise in the Sangkae River’s level and faster flows than before.

Authorities urged people living along the Sangkae River, especially downstream, to remain highly vigilant because currents could become powerful during releases before water levels begin to fall again.

They also advised residents to continue following updates and notices from specialist agencies so that they could prepare preventive measures and protect property and lives.
