On July 17, 2026, Poipet city gendarmes carried out an operation against an active network involved in motorcycle theft and buying and selling stolen property in the city. They detained a total of 13 suspects and referred them to Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court for legal proceedings.
Captain តិល តៃលីវ, commander of the Poipet city gendarmerie base, said the operation followed complaints from several victims. On July 15, 2026, investigators began looking into two motorcycle-theft cases in មិត្តភាព village, Poipet sangkat, and ក្បាលស្ពាន១ village, Ou Chrov sangkat.
Through investigation and the use of GPS tracking, officers identified suspects and a suspected location in គីឡូម៉ែត្រលេខ៤ village, Phsar Kandal sangkat, Poipet. They surrounded the location and made successive arrests, bringing the total number of suspects detained to 13.
Officers seized six motorcycles during the operation. Two were returned to their original owners, while four remained at the Poipet city gendarmerie base as efforts continued to identify their owners. Officers also seized other evidence related to the suspected offences.
Following questioning and urine tests, all suspects tested positive for drugs, according to the authorities. Based on statements described as confessions and the evidence collected, investigators said they had found indications of aggravated theft, handling stolen property, unauthorised possession or transport of weapons, and unlawful use of narcotic substances.
The gendarmerie has compiled case files and referred all 13 suspects, together with the evidence, to Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court for further legal proceedings.
