Leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries conducted an on-site inspection of the impact on wet-season rice crops caused by flooding and introduced urgent intervention measures to help rescue the rice of residents in Tang Kouk district, Kampong Thom province.
On September 29, 2026, His Excellency Touch Bunhuor, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Chairman of the Secretariat for Disaster Management, accompanied by His Excellency Sok Visal, Under Secretary of State, Ministry Advisors, and specialized technical officials, conducted an on-site inspection and assessment of the impact on wet-season rice crops, with coordination and participation from the head of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, commune agricultural officials, and local authorities.
To minimize damage to ripening rice as much as possible, His Excellency the Secretary of State instructed the Provincial Department of Agriculture and local authorities to coordinate in implementing emergency rescue measures through the "Save Rice from the Floodwaters" campaign—seeking and mobilizing large-scale combine harvesters capable of harvesting in deep water, raising or reinforcing field bunds, then operating pumps to drain water from fields with favorable conditions, and rallying the forces of residents and community solidarity in the locality to assist with additional manual harvesting.
His Excellency further emphasized that, based on on-site assessment in the field, nearly 100% of that ripening rice can be harvested provided there is no additional heavy rainfall, because the water level has not yet submerged the rice panicles, and the rice has not yet become overly ripe. - By: Pai Sokhim
