Recently, a large-scale law enforcement operation was carried out in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province. Police raided a 30-story building in the area and took control of 587 people on site, including 105 women. Police initially suspect the premises of being involved in online gambling activities.
The detained individuals include 518 Indonesian nationals, 18 Thai nationals and 51 Cambodian nationals. Based on leads obtained by police, the mastermind behind the online gambling group is suspected to be a Thai national, and police are currently conducting further verification of the relevant information.
As footage from the law enforcement scene was released, conditions inside the building gradually came to light. On-site photos show that the building contained multiple large office areas, with rows of desks and a large number of computer monitors, keyboards and other equipment, and some workstations were also equipped with multiple mobile phones.
In one office area, dozens of workstations were densely packed, and multiple law enforcement officers entered the scene to take control. In another hall, a large number of detained individuals gathered, with many of them sitting on the floor, waiting for police to carry out identity checks and subsequent processing.
From the scene, the scale of the premises involved is relatively large, with a substantial number of office areas and electronic devices. During the operation, police also seized a batch of computers, mobile phones and other relevant physical evidence suspected of being used for online gambling activities.
At present, police are conducting one-by-one checks on the 587 detained individuals and further investigating the identities of those involved, the organizational structure and the situation regarding the people behind the operation. The case will be handled in accordance with the law based on the findings of the investigation.
