Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen on October 5 sent a congratulatory letter to Sonexay Siphandone on his election as President of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, expressing his expectation of continuing to deepen cooperation between Cambodia and Laos and between their legislatures.
The second ordinary session of the 10th Lao National Assembly was recently held in the capital Vientiane. The session voted to elect Sonexay Siphandone as the new President of the National Assembly, succeeding Saysomphone Phomvihan, who died of illness in August this year.
In the congratulatory letter, Hun Sen said that, on behalf of the Cambodian Senate and in his personal capacity, he extended sincere congratulations to Sonexay Siphandone on his election. He noted that this appointment reflected the trust placed in Sonexay Siphandone's leadership by his colleagues in the Lao National Assembly and by the Lao people.
Hun Sen expressed his confidence that, during Sonexay Siphandone's term, the Lao National Assembly would make greater progress in institutional development and legislative effectiveness, earnestly fulfill its duties, and contribute to achieving the country's development goals.
Hun Sen said that Cambodia and Laos have long maintained friendly relations, with bilateral ties built on mutual respect, shared values, and the promotion of bilateral cooperation. He expressed his belief that relations between the two countries would continue to deepen and develop.
Hun Sen also said he looked forward to working closely with Sonexay Siphandone to further strengthen exchanges and collaboration between the two countries' legislatures and between Cambodia and Laos themselves, jointly promoting peace, stability, and prosperity for the benefit of both peoples and the region.
