China-aided green energy projects in Cambodia have reached a new milestone. On 8 October, China’s Government Procurement website published a tender notice for the supply of 3,000 household photovoltaic power generation systems and 2,000 solar-powered street lights for Cambodia. The project has a budget of 15.3569 million yuan and is intended to help improve local access to electricity and lighting.
According to the notice, the household photovoltaic systems come with solar panels, energy-storage batteries and LED lights, providing households with lighting and basic electricity support. The solar street lights store solar energy to provide nighttime illumination for roads and public areas.
This aid is closely tied to the daily lives of ordinary residents. For communities that need improved access to electricity, the household solar equipment is expected to expand the sources of lighting available to them. Once the street lights are in service, they will also improve conditions for getting around at night. However, the specific areas covered and the installation timetable still await further arrangements.
In fact, China and Cambodia have already been cooperating on solar energy and low-carbon development. In April 2026, Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment said China would donate an additional 2,000 solar street lights and 3,000 household solar systems to help local communities improve their electricity supply.
This procurement is an important step forward in advancing that aid package. According to the tender notice, bids will be opened on 29 October. After the contract is signed, the supplier must complete delivery within 5 months. The project is still at the tender stage, and the final installation sites and the actual scope of beneficiaries await further official announcements.
