Indonesian police have arrested a 36-year-old Brazilian woman on Bali on suspicion of smuggling more than 3.6 kilograms of liquid cocaine into Indonesia, concealed inside shampoo bottles and other body care products.

According to Indonesia's state news agency Antara, customs officials and Bali narcotics investigators intercepted and detained the woman at Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport immediately after she arrived from Brazil. Customs officers detected irregularities in her suitcase, and after a search, authorities found 7 bottles of body care products containing a liquid suspected to be liquid cocaine.

The suspect told police that a coordinator based in Brazil had promised to pay her 50,000 US dollars if she could deliver the liquid cocaine to another contact on Bali. Investigators revealed that, in addition to the substantial courier fee, the suspect was also promised arrangements for accommodation.

The suspect is currently under investigation in accordance with Articles 609(2) and 610(2) of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which address the possession and importation of Class 1 narcotics, a category that includes cocaine, offenses that carry the risk of life imprisonment.

It should also be noted that Indonesia has some of the strictest anti-drug laws in the world, including the death penalty for drug traffickers, with dozens of foreigners currently on death row. By: Rithy
