Elon Musk has donated at least US$445 million to help Republicans retain control of the US Senate. The huge spending has made the world's richest man the largest publicly disclosed donor in the midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress during the final two years of President Donald Trump's term in the White House.
Musk had already made substantial contributions in previous months. In September, he donated a total of US$158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, which is backed by the Senate majority leader, and provided millions more for House of Representatives races.
The technology billionaire, who has close ties to President Trump, issued a stern warning to Democratic lawmakers who plan to investigate his business interests and role in the federal government if they gain control of Congress in November. He wrote on his social media platform X: ‘Those who live by the sword will die by the sword.’ Text: Rithy
