Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Russian President Vladimir Putin that countries in the Middle East are capable of resolving regional problems without US involvement, as Iran and Russia seek closer political and economic ties.
The two leaders met on Tuesday, October 27, on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum summit in Moscow. Their talks covered regional conflicts, bilateral cooperation and joint oil and gas projects.
Pezeshkian called for stronger cooperation in natural gas exports, saying Iran produces around 280 billion cubic metres of gas annually, making it the world’s third-largest producer after the United States and Russia.
In response, Putin discussed the situation in the Middle East, saying Russia cannot intervene in the conflict but is deeply concerned, and urging all parties involved to try to resolve the problems peacefully.
The talks came as Iran seeks closer economic relations with Russia while its energy exports face pressure from a US naval blockade of waterways. By: Rithy
