The fourth China–ASEAN and Neighbouring Countries International Exchange and Cooperation Forum on Big Data Policing recently opened in Guiyang, China. Under the theme “Deepening Practical Law Enforcement Collaboration and Building a Regional Security Shield Together,” it brought together more than 120 participants, including representatives of police departments from 15 ASEAN and neighbouring countries and regions, international policing cooperation organizations, Chinese public security agencies, universities and think tanks.

During the forum, participants exchanged views on big data policing, social governance and the handling of transnational crimes such as telecommunications and online fraud. They shared law enforcement experience and explored how technology could improve their ability to combat cross-border crime.

Wang Gang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Lancang-Mekong Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center, attended the forum and delivered a keynote address. He said that transnational crime was constantly evolving and that no single country could tackle every challenge alone, making stronger communication, coordination and law enforcement cooperation essential.

He said the center was willing to continue its coordination and support role, promote exchanges among national law enforcement agencies and international organizations, and help put technological innovation to better use in law enforcement to safeguard regional security and stability.

Guizhou is an important region for China’s big data industry. Since the first forum was held in 2018, China, ASEAN and neighbouring countries have continued exchanges on technology-based policing and combating telecommunications and online fraud, contributing to closer regional policing cooperation and joint responses to transnational crime.
