North Korea fired several unidentified missiles toward the Sea of Japan on Wednesday, a day earlier. This came as Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, made clear that the nuclear-armed country saw no need for talks with the United States if Washington did not abandon its policy of confrontation. She said North Korea had no need to sit face to face with people it considered unreliable and hostile who refused to abandon that policy.
The missile launches and strongly worded remarks also followed Kim Jong Un’s inspection of the Nampho shipyard on November 2, where he pledged to build the country’s most advanced and powerful warships. Separately, Kim Yo Jong rejected U.S. accusations that the North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor was behind the theft of approximately US$6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance.
Kim Yo Jong also stated that dialogue was among the options for peace, but that, for North Korea, dialogue did not necessarily equate to its national interests. By: Rithy
