Cambodia has reaffirmed its support for the United Nations Resident Coordinator System and its commitment to further strengthening cooperation with the UN to contribute to peace, stability and sustainable development. Ambassador Keo Chhea, Cambodia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated this position while addressing the annual meeting of Resident Coordinators for the Asia-Pacific region in New York on 5 November 2026. He highlighted the longstanding partnership between Cambodia and the UN, which has played an important role in supporting Cambodia’s peace process, recovery, reconstruction and development.

In his statement, Ambassador Keo Chhea stressed the importance of the UN Country Team, led by the Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, in providing support and coordinating cooperation with the Royal Government to advance national development priorities. These include supporting graduation from least developed country status, responding to the impacts of climate change, and implementing projects that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. This cooperation helps strengthen institutional capacity, draw on resources and expertise, and align development programmes with Cambodia’s actual needs and priorities.

Ambassador Keo Chhea also called for continued investment in and strengthening of the Resident Coordinator System to ensure that the UN development system is coherent, responsive and efficient in its use of resources. Strengthening the system is also important to enabling UN bodies and agencies to work more closely together and provide support suited to each country’s context and priorities. Cambodia’s position reflects its continued promotion of multilateralism and international partnerships, viewing cooperation with the UN as an important part of advancing inclusive, resilient and sustainable development and building a peaceful and prosperous future for its people.
