Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen used his 2026 New Year message to encourage the whole nation to maintain patriotism, national unity and solidarity as one. He said this would help Cambodia defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, restore and preserve lasting peace with Thailand and peace within the country, and advance national development towards the Cambodia 2030 and 2050 visions. He particularly called for continued confidence in the Royal Government and the armed forces, praising their efforts and sacrifices in leading and defending the homeland inherited from Khmer ancestors and ensuring that people can live in safety.
In his message, Hun Sen commended the Cambodian people's patriotism and unity in defending sovereignty and territorial integrity and developing their country, particularly during what he described as aggression by Thai troops. He said the population's physical, moral, intellectual and material support for frontline soldiers, victims and displaced Cambodians was a source of national pride and a noble virtue. This showed the world that, however difficult the circumstances, Cambodians continued to share one another's joys and hardships as a single nation.
