During a meeting with Indian Ambassador to Cambodia Vanlalvawna Bawitlung on January 2, 2026, Tourism Minister Huot Hak said Cambodia’s private sector was fully prepared to respond to a further increase in Indian visitors expected in 2026.
Huot Hak said that growth would be supported by Air Cambodia’s direct flights between New Delhi and Phnom Penh and IndiGo Airlines’ direct flights between Kolkata and Siem Reap, as well as safety, development across all sectors and abundant tourism potential. He particularly highlighted the warm, sibling-like hospitality arising from cultural, civilisational and historical ties shared over thousands of years.
The ambassador reaffirmed India’s continued support for the Tourism Ministry to complete successfully, in the new year, three assistance projects under the Quick Impact Project (QIP) framework for the development of ecotourism communities previously supported by the Indian government.
In response, the minister thanked the Indian government and people for their consistent support for Cambodia across all sectors, particularly tourism, through the earlier Cambodia–India Tourism Year initiative and the large increase in Indian visitors to Cambodia during the final months of 2025. He also thanked India for QIP assistance and for giving four Tourism Ministry civil servants the opportunity to attend high-quality, carefully selected training in India at the end of January 2026.
