Summary

The Foreign Ministry said Chann Rotana briefed 25 representatives of 22 diplomatic missions and international organisations in Phnom Penh on January 2 on ceasefire-related developments.

Although the Cambodia–Thailand border had remained calm after the ceasefire, Cambodia continued meeting foreign diplomats and international organisations to report on the situation. On the afternoon of January 2, 2026, Chann Rotana, Under Secretary of State and Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, briefed 25 representatives of 22 diplomatic missions and international organisations in Phnom Penh on the latest border developments.

According to the ministry, the briefing focused on three main issues: first, the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), dated December 27, 2025; second, the main outcomes of the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers and senior military officials of Cambodia, Thailand and China, held in Yunnan, China, on December 29, 2025; and third, the release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers on December 31, 2025.

The Under Secretary of State also updated participants on Cambodian civilian deaths and injuries, displacement and property destruction, which Cambodia attributed to attacks by Thai armed forces on Cambodian territory, sovereignty and civilian areas. He expressed deep gratitude for all humanitarian assistance that friendly countries had provided and continued to provide, particularly China. The assistance was delivered directly or through international organisations or non-governmental organisations to help displaced civilians.
