Preah Sihanouk Governor Mang Sineth said education was essential because developing good children, friends, students and citizens begins in schools, where teachers provide instruction and guidance with important support from Education, Youth and Sport Department officials. He spoke on the morning of January 29, 2026, opening the provincial conference evaluating education, youth and sport work in the 2024–2025 school year and setting directions for 2025–2026.
He said the province's education sector had earned many honours in 2025, including model-school and outstanding-teacher awards from Samdech Techo. All relevant institutions should therefore continue striving for more success and better quality.
He praised provincial department leaders, civil servants, education personnel, school management and teachers in public and private institutions for developing capable human resources with knowledge, practical skills, good morals, professional conscience and dignity, as valuable successors for the nation. In particular, he commended efforts to turn crises into opportunities through the New Education Pathway approach, meeting demand for modern, high-quality educational services amid the rapid growth of information technology use.
He said the government would continue key education measures to improve public schools from kindergarten through secondary level. Four main measures were strengthening school governance; reviewing, revising and preparing curricula and extracurricular activities to improve knowledge, discipline, morals and student behaviour; attending to student health through child nutrition and school food-quality checks; and encouraging parents, guardians and communities to participate in education under the slogan “Public–Community Partnership for Education”.
He said the provincial administration paid close attention to education and children's and young people's full physical, intellectual, social, psychological and emotional development, helping them become good children, students and citizens and a strong backbone for the nation.
Schools are important in creating safe, inclusive environments and platforms for learning and research. School reform should therefore involve and engage the responsibility of parents, guardians, school and university students and communities in school management and in creating safe learning environments at school, at home and in the community.
