Summary

Cheam Chansophorn warned police and local officials against colluding with scam operations or failing to monitor and report them.

Kampong Speu Governor Cheam Chansophorn warned of the strongest action against police inspectors or post chiefs who colluded in or facilitated online scams in their areas. Municipal and district governors who failed to monitor and report scam locations would not be exempt. He spoke on the morning of January 29, 2026, at a meeting reviewing the 2025 implementation of the Safe Village–Commune–Sangkat policy and setting directions for 2026, attended by Interior Ministry Secretary of State Samrith Dy.

He said technology-based scams were threatening security globally and regionally, while some foreign criminal groups had infiltrated Cambodia to conduct such activities.

To prevent, suppress and effectively combat technology-based scams and help preserve security, public order and social safety, Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed capital and provincial governors and police commissioners to take direct responsibility for clearing all scam locations from their jurisdictions in accordance with existing laws and legal instruments.

Regarding the government's orders, Cheam Chansophorn insisted that local authorities, municipal and district police inspectors and post chiefs pay close attention to effective and transparent prevention and suppression. No exception would be made if collusion or facilitation of online scams was found in their areas. By: Pai Sokhim.
