Two BYD electric cars assembled locally in Cambodia were recently formally delivered to customers, marking the company's move from establishing a project to actual production and market delivery. The milestone was also seen as an important step for Cambodian vehicle manufacturing. BYD said customers' choice of locally assembled cars reflected recognition of product quality, technology and after-sales service.

On January 30 in Phnom Penh, Deputy Prime Minister and Council for the Development of Cambodia First Vice Chairman Sun Chanthol met a delegation led by Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD's Asia-Pacific automotive sales division. He congratulated BYD on the assembly plant entering production, saying it could strengthen local manufacturing, diversify industry and support jobs and related suppliers. BYD thanked Cambodia for its support and said the first deliveries represented initial market recognition of its production capacity. It was also building a large comprehensive automotive service centre and planned to expand capacity gradually according to market demand.

The BYD electric-vehicle assembly plant broke ground in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone on April 28, 2025. With investment of about US$32 million and planned annual assembly capacity of 10,000 vehicles, it was completed in December 2025. Official figures cited in the report put cumulative nationwide registrations by 2025 at 9,065 electric cars, alongside 3,203 electric motorcycles and 700 electric tricycles. Electric transport numbers continued to rise, with BYD, Toyota and Tesla among the principal brands in the market.
