Summary

On February 4, Mang Sineth outlined a master plan covering logistics and trade, an integrated city, development of 32 islands, and agro-industry and aquaculture in parts of two districts.

The Preah Sihanouk provincial administration has been implementing the government's master plan to transform the province into a multipurpose model special economic zone. Meeting experts from a Japanese technical consultancy on the morning of February 4, Governor Mang Sineth detailed four main components: a logistics and trade zone; an integrated city; island development; and development of parts of Prey Nob and Kampong Seila districts as agro-industrial and aquaculture areas.

For the first component, he said the government had designated a corridor from Sihanoukville Autonomous Port to Stung Hav district for industrial parks, special economic zones and factory areas outside the SEZs. A logistics hub would also be established there, where three international ports were located: Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, Keo Phos Port and Stung Hav Port.

The second component would integrate Sihanoukville city and Kampong Saom city, with commercial areas, an international financial centre and housing for local residents. The third would develop the province's 32 islands, including their beaches, creeks and mangroves, as luxury tourism or ecotourism areas.

The fourth component would develop parts of Prey Nob and Kampong Seila as agro-industrial and aquaculture areas. The governor said all these were included in the master plan for a multipurpose model SEZ. He added that provincial infrastructure development had also made considerable progress.
