Kim Sopheak, honorary head of the Preah Sihanouk women’s association branch, said the branch and provincial women’s movement were important actors that institutions must not overlook. She described women as central to, and a backbone of, national development, with the ability to outperform men in some respects.
She spoke on the afternoon of February 10 at the 2025 work review and 2026 planning conference of the provincial Cambodian Women for Peace and Development association branch and women’s movement. Provincial Council chairman Vong Phanat and Governor Mang Sineth presided.
The honorary head said, “Besides work under the association’s statutes, we have actively helped guide people’s morale at the local level.” In particular, amid the consequences of what she described as Thailand’s war of territorial aggression, the association and women’s movement mobilised residents as a rear support force for frontline soldiers. They donated money, materials and food and prepared and packed supplies for frontline troops and displaced people along the border.
The association and women’s movement also visited and encouraged displaced residents and students who had moved to Preah Sihanouk. They met and encouraged wives at Ream Naval Base whose husbands were serving at the border.
