“I dare not imagine what our city would be like without the cleaners on beaches and public roads, or how much rubbish would accumulate there.” Preah Sihanouk Governor Mang Sineth made the remarks at a gathering with beach and roadside cleaning and gardening staff on the afternoon of February 12.
The governor acknowledged the difficulties caused by some residents who continued littering without understanding proper waste disposal, affecting order and the city’s appearance. He said: “The work is difficult. Sometimes we clean here, move ahead, and people throw rubbish behind us again, so we have to keep cleaning back and forth.” Nevertheless, he asked workers to remain patient and work hard for the city’s reputation and beauty.
He said cleaners had also contributed to the province’s recent ASEAN regional clean-city award in the Philippines and praise from leaders, dedicating those compliments and achievements to all the cleaning staff.
Mang Sineth thanked cleaning staff for their sacrifices to beautify Sihanoukville and called on residents, traders and all visitors to the province to help keep beaches and roads clean through proper rubbish disposal. Bins were also available along the beaches for visitors and vendors.
