Summary

A February 13 notice described a roughly five-hectare compound with 13 buildings and 348 rooms, intended for temporary detention of foreigners awaiting deportation.

Takeo’s provincial administration said in a February 13 notice that the site of Sopheap Mitt Residence company, beside an unpaved road in Trayung Khpos village, Lumpon commune, Bati district, had been closed. The government decided to hand it to the Interior Ministry for temporary detention of foreigners before deportation.

The roughly five-hectare compound contained one warehouse, 13 buildings and 348 rooms. The notice did not disclose the total number arrested or list the province-wide number of buildings at raided sites.

The government had decided to transfer the buildings to the Interior Ministry for the General Department of Immigration to manage as temporary detention for foreigners before deportation.

The government made action against scams a priority and called for their firm elimination. Many foreigners who entered illegally or worked unlawfully had been deported. The ministries of Justice, Interior, and Economy and Finance, together with other relevant bodies, were drafting legislation against technology-enabled scams to strengthen the basis for enforcement.

Separately, national figures cited 48 police operations over nine months, 168 detained people sent to court and 2,722 foreigners returned to their countries. In January 2026, Cambodia arrested Chen Zhi and associates and sent them to China. The government set April 2026 as the final deadline for eliminating scam sites; officials in the capital and provinces where related crime continued after April would be accountable to the government.
