Summary

The Environment Ministry reports clean-up efforts in Preah Sihanouk and Kampong Som cities after rain washed waste into the sea, and calls for less plastic and better waste collection.

The Ministry of Environment said tourists could visit what it described as one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines in Preah Sihanouk and Kampong Som cities, Preah Sihanouk province, without seeing waste flowing into the sea again. It attributed the improvement to the provincial administration, environment department, relevant authorities, private businesses, vendors and tourists working together over the past two days to collect and properly store waste and clean beaches and streets after heavy rain had washed rubbish into the sea.

The ministry added that the provincial coast had regained its attractive appearance following intervention, joint clean-up efforts and proper waste disposal after rainwater flooding carried waste into the sea on the morning of February 22, 2026.

It thanked capital and provincial administrations, local authorities and the majority of residents who maintained cleanliness. It urged continued participation in reducing plastic use, collecting rubbish and cleaning the environment, with waste properly wrapped and placed for collection, and an end to dumping in public places, along roads and in streams and drains.

The ministry also appealed for clean communities, homes, buildings and public and private institutions so that Cambodia, the shared home of its people, remains clean and green and develops sustainably. By: Pai Sokhim.
