On the afternoon of February 23, the Preah Sihanouk branch of the Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Repression Directorate-General inspected food at the Techo Square exhibition, including squid, fresh shrimp, meatballs and mixed meat products.
The team, led by deputy branch head Chea Pich, tested 11 food samples on site using a mobile laboratory and reported finding no prohibited chemicals in those samples.
The report said the work was undertaken under branch head Khun Simon, implementing guidance from Commerce Minister Cham Nimul, director-general Kim Meas Sok Seiha and Governor Mang Sineth, using scientific, risk-based market inspections.
Officials said continuing inspections had helped reduce improper use of borax, formalin and Auramine O, and that food-safety oversight would continue.
The branch head also urged traders to maintain fair competition, refrain from dumping practices that disrupt the market, and avoid expired, untraceable or counterfeit goods, while operating lawfully and protecting consumers.
