February 24 this year marked the 27th anniversary of Cambodia’s National Mine Awareness Day, an occasion to reflect on long-term efforts to remove the dangers of war remnants and restore livelihoods.
In a message for the occasion, Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin said China, as an ironclad friend, had provided successive grants since 2018 to support humanitarian demining in Cambodia.
The report says this cooperation cleared 186.3 square kilometres contaminated by mines and unexploded ordnance, finding and safely destroying more than 104,000 explosive items. It directly benefited over 1.4 million people, enabling them to return and use the cleared land safely for their livelihoods.
Wang Wenbin said demining cooperation was not only technical and financial support but also an expression of strong friendship and shared humanitarian responsibility.
The article describes this year’s awareness day as a sign of Cambodia’s continued progress towards becoming mine-free, with support from international partners such as China contributing to safety and sustainable development. By KPS99TV
