Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasised that making cities attractive, clean, green and modern was a central factor in strengthening tourism and national economic growth.
In a message celebrating the 13th National Clean City Day in 2026, under the theme “Unity for Clean Cities,” made public on the morning of February 27, he said cities were centres of everyday life, leisure, tourism, commerce, investment, politics and culture. Their development would therefore create favourable conditions for tourists and investors.
He added that successful tourism also stimulated further urban development through greater economic opportunities, new investment, modern urbanisation, heritage preservation, environmental sustainability and essential supporting infrastructure to meet visitors’ needs. These factors would make cities more vibrant and improve their quality for living, doing business and sightseeing.
He stressed that urban planning and development should focus on cleanliness, greenery, a good environment, infrastructure connections across sectors, safety and security, modernisation, innovation, social well-being and friendly hospitality. In particular, cities should preserve and promote their culture, traditions and heritage as key attractions for domestic and international tourists.
In the spirit of the theme, he pledged to keep promoting tourism development, continuing Hun Sen’s leadership model in advancing Cambodia as a quality, regionally competitive destination.

The year’s celebration aimed to encourage people nationwide, especially young people, to participate more actively in green development, environmental protection, good hospitality and the sustainability of clean cities, contributing to resilient, sustainable and inclusive socioeconomic development.
