From February 25 to 28, 2026, Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration expelled 1,501 foreign nationals, including 162 women. The report says most were linked to online scams, clandestine border crossing, or unlawful residence and employment.
The department said the expulsions followed instructions from the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister and from Lieutenant General Sok Veasna, director-general of immigration.
The 1,501 people came from 20 nationalities or places of origin: China, Ghana, Syria, Uganda, Taiwan (China), Myanmar, Indonesia, Laos, India, Pakistan, Kenya, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Nepal and Korea. They included 658 Chinese nationals linked to online scam cases, deported on special flights through the Techo International Airport border police post. Other foreigners were linked to clandestine entry, residence without passports and unlawful work in Cambodia.
The report describes the expulsions as part of the government’s strict legal measures to tackle technology-related crime and protect people regionally and globally, without exceptions for organisers. It also highlights rescuing victims deceived into scam operations so that they regain their freedom and return home.
