On the morning of March 3, the committee of the Kampong Som city sub-branch of the Cambodian Women’s Association for Peace and Development in Preah Sihanouk province gathered to mark the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day, March 8, 2026, and recognise additional new members.
The joint celebration and recognition ceremony was attended by Preah Sihanouk Deputy Governor Mak Samnang, Kampong Som City Council Chairman Samrit Sophat and City Governor Nuon Bunthol, along with numerous women members.
This year’s theme is “Peace and Security for Women and Families.” Nuon Bunthol said it made clear that peace and security underpin progress for women and families. When women are safe, have equal rights and receive appropriate opportunities, he said, families become stronger, communities more stable and society develops sustainably.
The city governor stressed women’s active contributions across administration, society, the economy, education and community work. Women are not only family caregivers but important partners in developing the city and the country.
He encouraged all women to keep building a culture of peace, teaching children ethical values and helping prevent violence in all forms. Nuon Bunthol said: “We must work together to create a safe environment for women and children so every family can live in happiness and safety.”
