Preah Sihanouk: The consultation on updated fishing-community information for Preah Sihanouk and Koh Kong on the Open Development Cambodia website aimed to present data and dashboards on communities and coastal fisheries resources, gather feedback to improve data quality and accuracy, strengthen participants’ ability to find data, use interactive maps and share information, and promote data use in decisions, natural-resource management and public participation.
The event was held on March 4, 2026 at Prey Nob district hall, with Deputy District Governor Din Bunnoeun, ODC Programmes and Partnerships Manager Oun Vimol, and ActionAid Cambodia representatives attending.
Din Bunnoeun said community information remained incomplete and greater technological awareness and skills were needed. He thanked partner organisations for building fishing communities’ capacity to maintain, protect and conserve natural resources in Prey Nob.
He urged all fishing communities to cooperate with supporting organisations to protect flooded forests, important habitats for many kinds of biodiversity, and expressed continuing district support for development partners and communities.
Oun Vimol said the three-year project was supported by European Union funding through cooperation with an ActionAid project. It operated in Kampot, Kep, Koh Kong and Preah Sihanouk with provincial partner organisations and national and subnational authorities.
The report said access to information remained limited. In this context, ODC, a local data hub, enabled the public—particularly Cambodians—to freely find and use information and datasets. Its data pages and mapping tools combined information on fishing communities, flooded forests, fisheries conservation areas and development projects across Cambodia, with interactive maps, tables and references on one page to make reliable information easier to access.
To ensure published information was accurate, current and responsive to users’ needs, ODC intended to hold consultations on updated fishing-community data for Preah Sihanouk and Koh Kong, reviewing and gathering feedback on information, data and dashboards for both provinces.
