The spokesperson addresses a grenade allegation, the Ta Um statue, five invitations for survey work and peaceful settlement after Thailand’s March 11 statement.

Thailand’s Foreign Ministry issued a March 11 press release stating that Thailand underscored the need for Cambodia’s good-faith cooperation and sincerity in advancing land-boundary survey and demarcation work between the two countries. Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said this could cause misunderstanding and issued a four-point clarification.

First, Cambodia rejected the allegation that Cambodian forces fired a 40-millimetre grenade on February 24, 2026. It said it had already formally clarified in a diplomatic note dated February 24 that the reported incident had not occurred, and that both sides’ regional military liaison teams immediately verified the matter jointly.

Second, regarding the Ta Um statue in the An Ses area of Preah Vihear province, Cambodia said it stood entirely within Cambodian territory as defined by the 1:200,000-scale maps produced by the Franco-Siamese Mixed Commission under the 1904 Convention and 1907 Treaty. It argued that claims based on unilateral Thai maps had no legal effect and that discussion should also take account of the detailed joint survey conducted by the countries’ joint survey teams on September 17, 2015.

Third, Cambodia said that, in accordance with point 3 of the December 27, 2025 joint statement of the third special General Border Committee meeting, its Joint Boundary Commission had sent five successive invitations to its Thai counterpart to resume the joint survey teams’ technical work as soon as possible. It said these invitations sought to advance demarcation sincerely, particularly in priority or sensitive areas.

Fourth, Cambodia reaffirmed its full commitment to peaceful resolution of border issues under international law and existing bilateral agreements. It stressed full implementation of the December 27, 2025 joint statement of the third special General Border Committee meeting and said it hoped to see sincere cooperation reflected in concrete action.
