Summary

Police reportedly detained eight foreigners at a Sen Sok apartment on April 6, seizing uniforms and documents in an alleged fraud investigation targeting people in Japan.

The Phnom Penh unified command reportedly inspected room 1316 at JD Polman condominium in Khmoun, Sen Sok, on the morning of April 6 during an anti-scam operation. Eight foreign suspects were detained: five Japanese, one person from Taiwan and two Chinese.

Police reportedly seized 14 work phones, one CPU unit, one monitor, three iPads, five Japanese police uniforms, two Japanese police caps and multiple forged police documents.

An initial police inquiry alleged that those involved used Cambodia as a base to impersonate Japanese police and defraud people in Japan through forged complaints, contracts and arrest warrants. At the time of reporting, the eight suspects had been transferred to Phnom Penh police for further investigation and legal procedures.
