According to a briefing after his return from France, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on April 8 and outlined Cambodia’s position on the border dispute with Thailand. The briefing said he presented the situation without exaggerating or downplaying it.
The briefing said Hun Manet described continuing border tensions and conveyed Cambodia’s position that Thai troops had crossed the lawful boundary into Cambodian territory and controlled areas in violation of international law. He said Cambodian homes had been damaged during the conflict and many residents were unable to return. He stressed Cambodia’s rejection of unlawful unilateral changes to the border and reaffirmed its claim to sovereignty over the areas concerned.

Hun Manet said Cambodia would continue to pursue peaceful solutions with Thailand under existing agreements and signed documents. The account of the talks was released after his participation in the One Health Summit in Lyon and his four-day visit to France from April 6 to 9. During the visit, he also met leaders of France and other countries to exchange views on bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields.
