Preah Sihanouk Deputy Governor and provincial administration spokesperson Long Dimanche said there had been no security or public-order disturbances in the province on April 14, 2026, the first day of Khmer New Year. He described conditions as good, with many visitors and numerous room bookings at hotels and guesthouses.
“There were indeed not many visitors visible in the morning because people were busy welcoming the New Year deity at their homes. From the afternoon onward, visitor numbers increased, especially with many hotel bookings, and many people also arrived from other provinces and the capital,” he said.
On island travel, he said there was slight congestion on water routes as many visitors headed to the islands, particularly Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem.
The report gives the 2026 traditional Khmer New Year holiday as three days: April 14, 15 and 16.
