Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration issued a clarification on May 26, 2026, rejecting a Chinese-language post circulated on WeChat the previous day. The post falsely claimed that Phnom Penh International Airport had temporarily suspended all arrivals, that land-border restrictions would tighten from May 26, and that all foreigners under 40 would be denied entry regardless of gender or possession of a visa or business documents.
The immigration department rejected those claims in full. It said immigration police had never received any directive from the authorities to prohibit foreigners under 40 from entering Cambodia.
The department said entry controls followed the government’s security measures and efforts to strengthen the management of foreign nationals, with the aim of preventing unlawful entry. It said foreign tourists, investors, businesspeople and workers continued to receive protection and encouragement to visit Cambodia, and that travel had not been shut down as alleged.
The department clarified that normal entry and exit procedures continued at major international immigration checkpoints, including air and land checkpoints, without the alleged new changes obstructing travel into or out of Cambodia.
The government had also announced a trial visa exemption for eligible Chinese passport holders from June 15 to October 15, 2026. AKP’s January 16 report, citing the Tourism Ministry’s January 15 notice, stated that eligible travellers could arrive from China or another country, stay for up to 14 days per visit and make multiple entries during the trial, without applying for a visa or paying visa fees, provided they completed an E-Arrival Card.
