On the morning of June 2, Cambodia’s acting head of state, Samdech Hun Sen, led a visit to the General Department of Taxation’s new headquarters in Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changvar district. Senators, members of the Supreme Privy Council to the King and other senior leaders accompanied him.
The visit demonstrated high-level attention to core government affairs and was described as a source of honour and encouragement for the country’s tax administration.
The new building had recently been inaugurated. Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over its official opening on May 21.
Completion of the headquarters represents an advance in public infrastructure and tax administration, illustrating Cambodia’s capacity to provide modern, high-standard public services.
Tax reform and development play an important role in national economic development. Hun Sen’s visit again highlighted the tax department’s role in implementing national strategies and reform policies.
In recent years, the General Department of Taxation has played a central role in improving the business environment and increasing government revenue. With upgraded modern infrastructure, the tax administration is expected to fulfil its responsibilities more efficiently and support Cambodia’s economic development.
