On June 12, under the unified command of Cambodia's National Police, elite personnel from its bodyguard unit carried out a large-scale practical exercise in protective formations.
The exercise focused on simulating protective formations and security coordination during major international events. Armoured vehicles and disciplined personnel took part, marking a move into practical security preparations for large international gatherings.
The National Police directed the exercise. Participating protection teams assembled and departed from Koh Pich in Phnom Penh, followed designated routes and successfully reached Techo International Airport.
The main purpose of the exercise was to test and improve the relevant agencies' security and emergency-response capabilities for major international events. It proceeded according to the established plan, with orderly coordination and smooth overall operations. The officers on duty demonstrated responsibility and teamwork.
The large-scale exercise served as advance preparation for an upcoming international diplomatic event. The 20th Francophonie Summit is expected to take place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in November 2026, when Cambodia, as host, will welcome heads of state and government representatives from several countries.
The National Police intended the exercise to provide comprehensive, systematic preparation for summit security and public order, and to demonstrate Cambodia's capacity to ensure the safety of international conferences.
