Summary

The report says Toyota’s Hilux Travo assembly line opened on 2 July 2026 at Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol recently posted on Facebook that Toyota’s Hilux Travo vehicle assembly line officially opened and began production in Phnom Penh on 2 July 2026.
The line is located at Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone. In remarks on the project, Sun Chanthol said Toyota Tsusho’s new vehicle assembly investment demonstrated confidence in Cambodia’s development potential and business environment.
Sun Chanthol said the line involved Cambodian engineers and technicians in vehicle assembly, demonstrating local skills in adopting advanced manufacturing technologies and aligning with government plans to build the industrial ecosystem, develop professional talent and support long-term economic development.
He thanked the Japanese government and Japan’s embassy in Cambodia for their longstanding support for bilateral friendship and cooperation. The report notes that the two countries upgraded ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023 and would continue expanding cooperation in trade, the economy and investment.
Sun Chanthol said the government was working to improve the foreign-investment environment by reducing trade and investment costs, developing clean energy, combating online crime and speeding the digital transformation of public services. Under its plans, Cambodia aimed to raise the clean-energy share to 70% by 2030 and simplify foreign-investment approval through the Council for the Development of Cambodia’s digital services and inter-agency coordination.
Sun Chanthol urged Toyota to consider further investment in vehicle parts, advanced technologies and local practical training. He also invited the company’s upstream and downstream suppliers to explore Cambodian opportunities to deepen integration into global automotive supply chains, increase local value added and create more quality jobs.
