In a message posted on its WeChat official account on July 19, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia said that the Cambodian government had resisted pressure and again reaffirmed its firm adherence to the one-China policy. On July 17, Taiwan’s foreign affairs authorities announced the cancellation of so-called “visa” facilitation for Cambodia and claimed that “Cambodia had betrayed Taiwan’s goodwill and instead spoken out in support of the one-China policy.”
In response, Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that Cambodia regarded Taiwan as a province of China, that its firm adherence to the one-China policy would not change, and that it would continue handling its foreign relations in accordance with the one-China principle.
Cambodia has repeatedly reaffirmed its firm commitment to the one-China principle in recent years. According to earlier reports, Taiwan’s foreign affairs authorities announced that, from August 1 this year, they would stop conditional visa-free entry and other entry-facilitation measures currently applicable to Cambodian nationals.
