Cambodia’s fresh durian exports to China continue to grow. At a fresh durian export launch held by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on July 26, local company Pechenda Fruit Production Co., Ltd. formally dispatched its first shipment of around 50 tonnes of fresh durian to China, marking the opening of an additional overland export route through Laos.
The shipment comprised three containers of fresh durian transported overland through Laos into China. The new route can reduce delivery time to around five days, compared with 15 to 20 days by traditional sea transport. The improved logistics help preserve fruit quality and reduce transport costs, further strengthening the competitiveness of Cambodian agricultural exports to China.
Ministry spokesperson Khim Finan said Cambodia had exported a total of 5,738 tonnes of fresh durian to China in the first seven months of 2026, an increase of nearly fortyfold over the total for all of 2025, reflecting rapid expansion and continuing market potential.
Khim Finan attributed the rapid growth to the government’s continued efforts to facilitate agricultural exports and coordinate the opening of an overland route connecting Cambodia with China through Laos.
Although the route has only recently entered operation, it already handles around 10 percent of Cambodia’s fresh durian shipments to China, becoming an important logistics corridor for agricultural export growth and international competitiveness.
The ministry said it would continue cooperating with relevant agencies and businesses to improve agricultural export logistics and expand international sales channels, helping more high-quality Cambodian farm products reach China and other overseas markets.
