In an interview with Bloomberg on July 24, 2026, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said China had played an active mediating role since the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute began, helping ease tensions in the region.
Referring to remarks by Chinese leaders during recent talks in Shanghai, Hun Manet said China had consistently supported Cambodia and Thailand in resolving their differences peacefully. He said this position reflected the international consensus calling for disputes to be settled peacefully under international law and within the United Nations framework. This was also Cambodia’s core position and a basic expression of member states fulfilling their international responsibilities.
Hun Manet praised the results of China’s mediation. He said China, together with the United States and Malaysia, had helped the parties reach their first ceasefire consensus in July 2025 and had repeatedly facilitated informal meetings between the Cambodian and Thai foreign ministers. He added that the three parties’ “Fuxian meeting consensus” had laid a foundation for rebuilding trust and easing border tensions. He hoped China would continue playing an active role in helping bring about a smooth resolution of the Cambodia–Thailand dispute.
