Chinese pet companies are accelerating their expansion into Cambodia. Pet treats, cat trees, leashes, pet mats and other products are now being made in Cambodia, with a large share exported mainly to European and American markets.
Based on company-disclosed data, the two factories operated in Cambodia by Yuanfei Pet recorded combined revenue of roughly 509 million yuan in the first half of this year, while Tianyuan Pet's two Cambodian factories generated about 138 million yuan over the same period. The combined first-half revenue of these four factories alone exceeded 600 million yuan.
These companies are also continuing to expand capacity. Yuanfei Pet plans to invest in a new pet-products production base in Preah Sihanouk province to manufacture pet food, toys and other pet supplies, further increasing its capacity in Cambodia.
Beyond these two companies, Chinese pet firms such as Zhongchong Co., Peidi Co. and Yiyi Co. have also set up factories in Cambodia. From pet treats to pet supplies, a new industrial chain is gradually taking shape.
Why are so many players eyeing Cambodia? A key reason is cost and exports. Companies can leverage Cambodia's manufacturing conditions while tapping Southeast Asia's geographic advantages to ship their products more easily to overseas markets such as Europe and the United States.
For Cambodia, these projects bring not only factories but also jobs, exports and an industry chain. As more Chinese companies continue to invest, Cambodia may be emerging as a new production hub for China's pet industry going abroad.
