On the occasion of the start of the fishing season, on the morning of October 18, 2026, His Excellency Khoy Rida, Governor of Pursat Province, led a working group on a field visit to assess and evaluate the actual fish catch situation of fishing families in Kampong Luong commune, Krakor district.
The smiles and hope of the fishing community members at this moment are the fruit of two key factors: the strict enforcement of the law and the strong commitment of the provincial administration, together with joint forces, which have launched intensive campaigns to prevent and crack down on fisheries crimes on the Tonle Sap Lake on an ongoing basis over the past 2 to 3 years.
The second factor is the community's spirit of participation, heightened awareness, a clear understanding of the value of natural resources, and active cooperation from local residents in joining the conservation of fish stocks.
The increase in fish catch volume at the start of this season not only helps improve the livelihoods and incomes of fishing families, but also provides robust support for food security and the local economic cycle.
Taking this opportunity, the provincial authorities also earnestly called on all fishing families to adhere to the use of legal fishing gear and to work together to protect and conserve aquatic resources for the lasting benefit of future generations. By: Pai Sokhim
