On the morning of October 27, 2026, Sovann Vannaroth, Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, and Reto Grüninger, Director for Cooperation at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-chaired the opening of a training course for TVET master trainers on good hygiene practices and food safety at the ministry’s headquarters. The course was held under the third phase of the Decent Employment for Youth in Cambodia programme (DEY III).

The ceremony was attended by Sok Narin, a representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), along with representatives of relevant institutions, development partners, master trainers and trainees.
Sovann Vannaroth said the two-day course aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of master trainers and teachers in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) on good hygiene practices and food safety, improving training quality and meeting industry needs. She stressed the importance of cooperation between TVET institutions and enterprises to ensure that training provides practical knowledge and skills aligned with labour-market demand.

She added that good hygiene practices and food safety not only help protect consumers and ensure product quality, but also reduce risks, raise productivity and strengthen enterprise competitiveness, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. Strengthening skills in this field is an important part of developing a skilled and productive workforce and contributes to expanding decent employment opportunities for Cambodian youth.

She urged all master trainers and trainees to participate actively in learning, discussions and the sharing of practical experience and knowledge from their respective institutions and workplaces to gain the maximum benefit from the course. She also encouraged trainees to apply the knowledge and skills gained in their work and continue sharing them with colleagues, students and other stakeholders to help improve TVET training quality in Cambodia.

SDC and UNIDO representatives also expressed continued support for implementing DEY III, particularly for strengthening the capacity of TVET master trainers, improving training quality and developing a skilled and competitive workforce, while contributing to more decent employment opportunities for Cambodian youth.
