The Royal Government of Cambodia has issued a sub-decree authorising the Ministry of National Defence to select 10,000 Cambodian citizens aged 18 to 25 to perform 24 months of military service for 2026, in accordance with the Law on Military Service.
The recruitment focuses on strengthening national defence capabilities, developing human resources in the military and encouraging citizens’ participation in defending the country. A capable and appropriately organised military force is an important factor in protecting sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
Performing military service can also offer young Cambodians an opportunity to serve the nation, learn about discipline and responsibility, and develop their abilities through training and experience in the military. This service can help strengthen solidarity, teamwork, patience and respect for discipline, qualities that matter both at work and in everyday life.
For young people with an interest in the defense sector, this participation can also be a step toward understanding the military profession and the role of the armed forces in serving the nation.
Young people interested in performing military service must contact and apply through the National Military Service Committee. Men aged 18 to 25 are subject to the obligation and may apply to serve voluntarily or follow the prescribed procedures, while women may participate on a voluntary basis.
